By ship or by plane, by car or by train, the first half of the 20th century was a golden time for travel. Travel agencies and tourism services lured eager travelers to far-off and exotic destinations, often by way of gorgeous, full-color posters advertising the charms of a particular place location. As an avid collector of postcards, I have always been inspired by the illustrated travel posters and WPA National Park posters from the 1930’s and the 1940’s. This poster was created with many of these in mind. The type treatment in the foreground of the poster creates a hierarchy of information through size and weight, while using a muted color palette to emphasize the setting of the image.
